About the Company
Premtech are an engineering design consultancy owned by National Gas. Premtech specialise in multi discipline design of onshore oil and gas infrastructure, primarily high-pressure gas pipelines and associated installations such as off-takes, multi-junctions, and compressor stations. Premzero are a specialist team within Premtech established in 2021 to meet an increasing demand for engineering design consultancy associated with clean energy and decarbonisation projects in the onshore oil and gas industry. Since 2021, Premzero has played a key role in several high-profile hydrogen and CO₂ pipeline projects across the UK. These include detailed design for new hydrogen and CO₂ pipelines and installations, repurposing natural gas pipelines for hydrogen and CO₂ service, hydrogen blending into natural gas, and various innovation projects related to hydrogen transmission. Clean energy and decarbonisation are major growth areas in the energy sector and Premzero, as part of Premtech, has seen a major increase in clean energy and decarbonisation related projects in recent years.
About the Role
Premzero are seeking to expand the team with a number of new roles including a Process Safety Engineer(s) to carry out tasks as described below. Applications from experienced candidates at all levels will be considered.
Responsibilities:
* Apply professional engineering principles, judgement, and innovative thinking to design solutions for pipeline and installation development.
* Leading risk analysis studies including but not limited to Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA), Structural Reliability Analysis (SRA) and Reliability, Availability, Maintainability (RAM) studies. Including hazard identification, consequence analysis, frequency analysis, individual / societal / environmental risk, and ALARP design assessment.
* Building proximity assessments for pipeline routing studies.
* Site and equipment location and layout studies.
* Participation in and leading Formal Process Safety Assessments (FPSAs) including HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL rating, safe working design studies, layout reviews, and HAZCON.
* Management, review and checking of process safety deliverables such as DSEAR or COMAH compliance documentation.
* Management of project risk registers including CDM Risk Registers.
* Hazardous area classification.
* Flaring and venting, thermal radiation, over-pressure, and noise assessments.
* Work closely with internal departments such as mechanical, process, E&I, stress analysis and external stakeholders, including clients and subcontractors, to collaborate on projects and guide decision-making processes.
* Ensure all engineering work complies with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
* Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering practices and processes.
* Development and review of operating philosophies including commissioning and decommissioning.
* Development and review of emergency procedures and fire risk assessments.
* Provide assistance and support to graduate / junior engineers.
Qualifications:
* A relevant accredited STEM degree (e.g. chemical or mechanical engineering).
* The right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship.
* Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
* Relevant experience as a process safety engineer in the UK gas transmission industry or similar related industry.
* Expertise and experience carrying out QRA using appropriate software tools.
* Experience with UK and industry design legislation, standards, and specifications for the gas industry such as IGEM, British Standards, ASME, PSR, PSSR, and CDM.
* Hazardous area classification and dispersion modelling experience.
* FPSA experience including HAZID and HAZOP.
* Demonstrable experience of responsibilities listed above.
Required Skills:
* Chartered engineer or working towards chartership.
* Experience with hydrogen, natural gas, and CO2 onshore transmission pipelines.
* Experience with DNV Phast or similar.
* Registered FPSA chairperson for UK gas network operators.
* Experience with UK gas networks including the design process (PS/6, G/17, G/35, GL/5) and specifications.
* Experience with industry standards and specifications including IGEM/TD/2, IGEM/SR/25, T/SP/G/36, T/SP/HAZ/9, and T/PM/HAZ/5.
