Overview
The Speech and Language Therapy Assistant will support the Clinical Coordinator and speech and language therapists across the Early Years and Young People’s Service. Duties include working in health centres, secondary mainstream schools and college settings with children and young people aged 2‑19 who have a range of speech, language and communication needs.
Responsibilities are an approximately equal split between clinical and administrative tasks, and the role involves both therapeutic intervention under a Speech and Language Therapist and routine administrative support.
Responsibilities
* Support a Clinical Coordinator with team management and administration.
* Assist therapists in setting up and running therapy groups and delivering therapeutic intervention under supervision.
* Prepare therapy materials and facilitate communication exercises for children.
* Carry out communication assessments, including gathering case history and conducting initial communication screens.
* Collect and distribute post, manage room bookings, maintain current databases and assist with ordering stationery and equipment.
* Assist in sending appointment letters, text messages and questionnaires, liaising with clients, families and referral agencies.
* Use SystmOne to record accurate patient information, process referrals and book appointments.
* Scan and upload emails, reports and other correspondence onto SystmOne.
* Attend mandatory training and other professional development opportunities such as child protection, information governance and SystmOne use.
Qualifications
* Good communication skills, spoken and written English.
* Well‑developed IT skills.
* Charismatic and caring approach with children and young people.
