HSE Manager

I'm currently partnering with a well-established engineering company based in Braintree who are looking to appoint an experienced HSE Manager to lead their Health, Safety & Environmental function. This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a senior role where you'll have full ownership of the HSE strategy and play a key part in shaping a positive safety culture across the organisation.
The Role:
As the HSE Manager, you'll be responsible for developing and delivering the company-wide HSE strategy, ensuring legal compliance, and driving continuous improvement. You'll work closely with the Managing Director and Senior Leadership Team, providing guidance, conducting audits, leading investigations, and overseeing all risk management activity.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement the organisation's HSE policies, procedures, and overall strategy
Review and update policies to align with legislation and best practice
Manage waste streams, including hazardous waste
Conduct risk assessments and implement effective control measures
Promote strong HSE awareness throughout the business
Provide expert advice to Directors and Managers on legislation and safe working practices
Deliver internal HSE training to managers and employees
Lead and coordinate site and workplace audits
Maintain and analyse accident and near-miss data; produce monthly/quarterly reports
Lead investigations into incidents and prepare detailed findings
Coordinate internal HSE communications, including reports and bulletins
Manage external accreditations (e.g., SMAS, SafeContractor)What We're Looking For:
Proven experience in an HSE Manager or similar senior H&S role
Background in engineering, manufacturing, or construction
Strong knowledge of UK H&S legislation and best practice
Confident in delivering training, conducting audits, and leading investigations
Excellent communication and influencing skills
