We are excited to offer an rewarding opportunity for a highly experienced and dedicated Senior Registered Nurse to join our compassionate and dedicated Inpatient Unit team. Our hospital‑based hospice team provides high‑quality, patient‑centred care and, under our Vision, we continue to deliver compassionate care as a Global Standard. With over 100 beds, specialist palliative care, and dedicated staff, we thrive in a dynamic environment that supports both patients and their families.


Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

* Provide skilled nursing care to patients in need of specialist palliative and end‑of‑life care, and support loved ones before and after bereavement.
* Deliver proactive, safe and seamless quality nursing care, coordinating individual care plans and facilitating a supportive, caring and compassionate environment.
* Demonstrate high standards of person‑centred care, lead clinical expertise and mentor team members, including students and volunteers.
* Manage case load, supervise and coordinate nursing staff shift by shift, and participate in clinical supervision and team meetings.

Job responsibilities

Clinical Practice: The post holder will maintain professional standards as set by Hospice policies, the NMC code, and NICE guidance. Responsibilities include end‑of‑life care, chronic disease management, symptom control, advanced communication for end‑of‑life conversations, and the development of specialist palliative nursing skills.

Assessment and Care Planning: Perform comprehensive assessments of physical, psychological, and social needs; develop care plans; manage medication; provide wound care and continence management.

Leadership & Service Development: Lead by example, mentor staff, oversee shifts, ensure equal opportunities, participate in multidisciplinary meetings, and drive service improvement through audits and policy development.

Training & Education: Attend mandatory training, maintain clinical competence, support induction of new staff, and contribute to teaching sessions.

Audit & Research: Participate in service development activities, implement clinical guidelines, and champion infection control, manual handling, falls, or medication management.

Qualifications

* Current RN Level 1 registered with the NMC.
* Post‑basic qualification in cancer/palliative care or a relevant subject, or actively working towards it.
* Evidence of continued professional development.
* NMC approved Practice Assessor qualification.
* Relevant post‑registration experience, at Band 5 or above, in cancer, palliative care or an associated speciality such as care of the elderly.


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post requires a Disclosure and Barring Service check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.

Salary: £39,192 to £46,766 per year plus enhancements for unsocial and weekend hours (salary is FTE).
