New starters will commence at the bottom of the salary grade and will receive increases to the top of the grade on an incremental basis. We offer 28 days annual leave (pro-rata) plus Bank Holidays. After 5 years of service, annual leave increases to 32 days, with an additional day per year up to 37 days. We also operate a flexible time attendance scheme.
An opportunity has arisen within our Joint Vehicle Fleet Management Department for a Fleet/Workshop Manager, based at HGV Workshop, Eastwood Trading Estate, Chesterton Road, Rotherham, S65 1SU.
The role's purpose is to supervise the Fire Service Workshops and Transport Stores, ensuring fleet vehicles, appliances, equipment, and plant are serviced and maintained per manufacturer instructions and SYFR Policy.
To qualify, you should have at least five years of recent supervisory experience within a Transport/Fleet department or organization, managing a fleet repair and maintenance facility efficiently and cost-effectively. You should have extensive knowledge of vehicle engineering principles, complex vehicle adaptations, relevant Road Transport Legislation, vehicle repair and maintenance practices, risk assessment, and safety standards related to Fire Service vehicles. A NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Motor Vehicle repair and safety training is required, along with membership or progress towards membership of relevant technical organizations such as the Society of Operations Engineers.
Key duties include supervising Workshop staff and ensuring compliance with health and safety laws, planning and organizing workshop activities, managing equipment technicians, diagnosing faults, maintaining records, and overseeing workshop performance. Additional responsibilities involve managing vehicle repairs, monitoring stock and procurement, planning testing and maintenance, and overseeing staff overtime and leave.
