Job Summary

Our new elective arthroplasty unit opened in September 2025, which is a testament to our Trust's ongoing commitment to enhancing healthcare services in the region and working collaboratively with orthopaedic services across Hampshire and Isle of Wight to serve patients across our communities.

Key Responsibilities

* Support the pre‑operative assessment process, working closely with the wider therapy team to gather information on patients' home environment, functional abilities and support needs.
* Liaise with patients, carers and external teams, including pre‑assessment from other trusts (e.g. Southampton) to ensure all necessary adjustments and equipment are in place before surgery.
* Assist in delivering therapy interventions for patients pre and post‑operatively, focusing on functional independence, mobility and discharge planning.
* Carry out basic assessments such as exercise provision and mobility progression under the supervision of physiotherapists and occupational therapists and provide feedback to the wider team.
* Support patients with equipment provision and home adaptations.
* Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team, including physiotherapists, nursing staff and consultants to ensure seamless patient care.
* Contribute towards patient education, reinforcing key information about recovery, rehabilitation and safe discharge.
* Maintain accurate documentation.
* Participate in supervision, training and service development, helping to improve and refine the elective orthopaedic pathway.


Additional Requirements

* Participate in a seven‑day working pattern, including extended hours.
* Team player, able to build rapport with patients, relatives and staff members, and a dynamic member of the team.
* Desire to develop self and others within the department.


Qualifications & Experience

* Previous experience working as a band 3 therapy assistant.
* Previous experience working within an acute hospital setting.
* Orthopaedic experience (desirable).
* Experience of supervising team members (desirable).
* Evidence of good time management, good communication skills and ability to use own initiative.
* Knowledge of key stage 2 English and numeracy (required for training).
* Evidence of having attained or working towards a recognised qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3) for rehabilitation programmes (essential).

Royal County Hampshire Hospital, Romsey Road, Winchester, SO22 5DG.

Job type: Permanent, full‑time. Band 4, Salary £27,485–£30,162 per annum (pro‑rata).
