Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate, motivated Band 6 Theatres Practice Educator to join our expanding perioperative team at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. The role involves working in the brand‑new Cancer and Surgical Innovation Centre (CASIC) as it opens this summer and across our established main theatres, day‑surgery unit, and other clinical areas. This position offers the opportunity to support surgical teams at the forefront of clinical innovation, helping staff grow into confident, competent practitioners.
Responsibilities
* Support and teach staff new to the scrub and circulating roles, including student nurses and ODPs.
* Act as a visible clinical role model within the operating theatres.
* Deliver and contribute to induction, training and competency programmes.
* Provide hands‑on clinical support to promote safe, evidence‑based practice.
* Work with theatre teams to identify learning needs and develop targeted education.
* Help create and maintain a positive, inclusive learning environment.
* Contribute to SOPs, competency documents and teaching resources.
* Participate in audit, quality improvement and research to enhance practice.
Qualifications – Essential
* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
* Mentorship/Practice Assessor qualification or equivalent.
* Post‑qualification experience in nursing studies that demonstrates sufficient clinical expertise.
* Demonstrated clinical credibility and competence.
* Evidence of experience in changing practice and project management.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
Qualifications – Desirable
* Completed or on pathway for a Post Graduate Certificate for Professional Education.
