Description
The Senior Project Engineer - Chassis role is responsible for ensuring the Chassis system components are released on time and meet the agreed mass, cost and attribute targets.
Responsibilities
* Responsible for the management of the Chassis BoM structure. Chassis Systems and components include but are not limited to: Suspension System, Brakes System, Steering System, Pedal Box System and Wheels & Tyres.
* Responsible for the management of the BoM structure, BOM cost, mass, design and release timing, technical specifications, DFMEA, DVP inputs and ETRS. Collate input from the wider function group and present metrics/KPI as required by the Principal Engineer/FG Lead and the program management.
* Operates independently w/r to engineering and project management topics within the program, acting cross functionally. Takes direction from the function group lead where necessary.
* Responsible for ensuring all Chassis Systems meet the full vehicle specification and cost targets outlined by the vehicle spec book, chief engineer and program management.
* Responsible for ensuring the relevant vehicle level attribute targets are cascaded down to Chassis system level and captured in the component and system level technical specifications.
* Responsible for defining the risks associated with all Chassis systems inline with risk assessment tool output.
* Coordinate with Chassis designers to ensure Chassis component plans are in place and meet the overall program timing milestones.
* Manage the overall Chassis systems timing plan to ensure all vehicle builds and development activities can be achieved on time.
* Lead feasibility studies and risk assessments to inform design decisions and mitigate potential issues.
* Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the engineering team, fostering innovation and excellence.
* Support cross functional meetings to ensure engineering / purchasing / quality and logistics are aligned and all working to the same plan.
* Support design engineers regarding the output of FMEA and DVP creation to ensure the durability, reliability, and functionality of Chassis components for the program. Liaise with the development teams to ensure the test & validation will be carried out appropriately.
* Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including other function groups design/styling, attributes, quality, development, purchasing and manufacturing to ensure seamless integration of Chassis systems into the program.
* Create and maintain strong working relationships with supplier/partners to deliver black box and grey box systems, considering performance, mass, certification/compliance, aesthetics and sustainability.
* Propose continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design processes, methodologies, and tools.
* Create a culture of responsibility, accountability within the program engineering team and promote the function group as a collaboration between engineers, SQE and purchasing.
* Working knowledge of below systems is advantageous: Suspension System, Brakes System, Steering System, Pedal Box System, Wheels & Tyres
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
* Minimum of 5 years’ experience within engineering project management of high-performance Chassis Components / systems
* Bachelor's/master’s degree in mechanical, automotive, aerospace engineering, or similar
* Proven experience as a Project Engineer with a focus on chassis components / systems, preferably in the Automotive, Motorsport or Aerospace industries.
* Knowledge of chassis design, development, and optimization, with hands-on experience in relevant engineering tools and software.
* Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a track record of successfully leading engineering teams.
* A creative thinker with a passion for pushing the boundaries of engineering possibilities.
* Organised, persuasive, resourceful, flexible, ambitious, self-directing, passion for delivering objectives, comfortable challenging existing processes.
* Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients.
* Must be a team player.
Managerial/Team Leader Responsibilities
* Establish strong team member relations, and provide technical support for people development, coaching and mentoring.
* Managing the day-to-day activities of the team within a program and delegate workloads fairly.
* Plan and evaluate team activities within a program and delegate as required.
* Support the Principal (FG Lead) with resource requirements and justification and work with the internal recruitment team when needed.
* Lead by example.
* Manage conflict, resolve incidents, and solve problems.
* Share and cascade information and communicate goals
