An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of Health Care Support Worker, Band 3 on St Caradog Ward which is an Adult Mental Health Ward, in Haverfordwest.

The successful applicant will have experience of working in an adult acute in-patient setting and will demonstrate dynamic and innovative practice.

The Service strives to provide high quality acute inpatient mental health care to the local population and the post holder would be expected to demonstrate leadership and resilience in the face of the day to day clinical, managerial and professional demands of the role.

The Nursing Support Worker is a vital part of the multi-disciplinary Team. Acting under the direction of registered nurses, the Nursing Support Worker is responsible for engaging in a variety of interventions with patients. These range from direct, compensatory nursing care, working in accordance with observation and engagement policies, monitoring physical health and engaging in psychosocial interventions in the wider community and in the patients own home.

The Nursing Support Worker contributes to the patients recovery pathway in a number of keyways. They provide the patients with role modelling as regards effective and reciprocal communication and relationships.

Multi-disciplinary assessments and mutually agreed Care and Treatment Plans rely heavily on information gained via the direct patient contact that the Nursing Support Workers provide.

Duties

Successful applicants will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team but must be able to work flexibly to suit the needs of the service and within a shift system providing 24 hour a day cover, 365 days a year which includes nights.

* Assist in the provision of care of patients.
* To work in support of the qualified nurses and be directed and supervised by them to undertake assigned tasks.
* Develop and maintain a good working relationship with patients through regular contact and ensure their safety and well-being.
* Ensure the confidentiality of patients and clinical documents at all times.
* Report any complaints, untoward events, or incidents to qualified nursing staff, and where appropriate under their supervision, complete the appropriate records.
* To respect the dignity, privacy, and independence of patients always.
* Be involved in discussion on the development of patient centred programmes
* Be aware of patients on Mental Health Act restrictions and record/report accordingly to qualified staff.
* To respond to emergency calls under the guidance of qualified staff.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

* Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
* Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings
* 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
* Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services
