Medical Retina Research Fellow

This is an exciting opportunity to work in the award-winning research unit within Ophthalmology at Central Middlesex Hospital. The research unit was inaugurated in April 2017 and has delivered multiple phase 1-4 research trials and investigator-led research studies within retina. We are seeking a Clinical Research Fellow to work within an established research team on 2 dedicated investigator-led research projects. There will also be a requirement to support recruiting participants into multi-centre clinical trials in geographic atrophy, diabetic retinal diseases and other retinovascular disorders.
Main duties of the job
* Conduct pre-specified observational retina research projects.
* Supported and supervised to be involved in protocol development, ethics submission, participant recruitment, publication and dissemination of the results of the study.
* Support recruitment into academic and industry NIHR portfolio studies in medical retina.
* Attend retina (medical and surgical clinics), intravitreal clinics and have an alternate week laser session
* Contribute creating presentations for medical students and allied health professionals.

To be considered for this role you will be medically qualified, GMC registered with a valid licence to practice and a Member or Fellow, of a relevant Royal College (or equivalent). You will also need a good grounding in clinical medicine, experience in medical retina and excellent communication and organisational skills. Experience in scientific writing and statistics will be looked upon favourably
The post is full time fixed term for 12 months, with possibility to extend.

Education & Qualification
* GMC registration
Further training, knowledge and skills
* Knowledge of ophthalmic anatomy and common retinal diseases.
* Knowledge of service evaluation and research methodology
* Excellent communication skills with patients and colleagues
* Research/service evaluation publications
* Experience with protocol writing and ethics submissions
Clinical Skills
* Ability to manage general ophthalmology emergencies (ST3+ equivalent)
Management Skills
* Management course
Clinical Governance
* Understanding of clinical governance
* Participation in audit.
* Development of guidelines
Teaching & Training
* Experience of teaching and training ophthalmic trainees or medical students or nurses, orthoptists or other allied health professionals
Language
* Candidates are able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfill the job requirements
