A kind, compassionate and caring manner in supporting our patients, their families and our dedicated team of staff is vital to this role. You will have high standards and be able to demonstrate excellent patient care, clinical and managerial skills. We have a very exciting opportunity available to work within and lead the team, providing care and support to patients in an acute medical setting for the older person.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to lead and develop the nursing and multidisciplinary teams. You will have demonstrable experience in ward management with experience in delivering rehabilitative inpatient care. You will be an autonomous practitioner keen to develop the team further. You will develop a close working relationship with the Matron for Medicine for Older People and ward sisters/managers within the division to ensure that the Elderly Care vision is shared across the division and trust.
You will have the opportunity to continue to progress your professional development, gain specialist knowledge in the care skills in caring for the older person. Commitment to undertake ongoing in-service training and development is essential. You should be motivated, keen to learn and ready to embrace change; our commitment to you is to provide the environment for this to happen.

Person specification
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
10. Good general education
11. Registered Nurse (Level 1)/ Qualified Physiotherapist / Occupational Therapist
12. Recognised course in Teaching and Assessing in practice ENB998 / SLICE / mentorship or equivalent
13. Evidence of further continued professional development
14. Degree related to field (or equivalent experience)
15. Recognised advanced communication skills
16. Recognised qualification in Older Peoples Care, Dementia or Rehabilitation
Desirable criteria
17. Degree in Nursing
18. Management / Leadership Course desirable
19. Completion of appropriate management and leadership programme
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
20. Experience as a Band 6; Experience post registration
21. Previous experience as shift/team leader
22. Experience of teaching students, HCA’s and qualified staff
23. Significant experience at a band 6 level within the NHS
24. Previous experience in teaching, coaching, mentoring
Desirable criteria
25. Proven track record of innovation and leadership in Medicine for Older People
26. Proven track record in change management, team leadership and performance management
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
27. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
28. Ability to work required shift pattern
29. Computer skills including the ability to use Microsoft word/ excel and other health related databases
30. Proven ability to utilise word, power point and excel to a level of producing documents, reports.

31. Evidence of participation in audit, research and development of staff
32. Proven track record with dealing with human resource concerns
33. Proven ability to analyse highly complex problems and to develop and successfully implement practical and workable solutions to address them
