RF Design Engineer Location: Silverstone (Hybrid working available) Salary: £50,000 - £75,000 DOE Benefits About the Role We are seeking an experienced RF Design Engineer to join a dynamic engineering team working on cutting-edge RF systems and products. This role involves the full lifecycle of RF hardware design, from initial system architecture through simulation, schematic capture, PCB layout, and prototyping, to testing and production support. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions, manage external partners when necessary, and contribute to technical decision-making and documentation. Key Responsibilities * Design and develop RF systems including system architecture, simulations, and PCB layout using industry-standard tools. * Create and manage schematics, footprints, and symbols with PCB design software. * Assess new technologies and system feasibility for upcoming projects. * Lead technical design reviews and present findings clearly to stakeholders. * Provide technical support to manufacturing and production teams. * Troubleshoot hardware and system-level issues arising across the business. * Mentor junior engineers and support their development. * Produce high-quality documentation, including design packs and risk assessments. * Coordinate with project managers to provide accurate time and risk estimates. * Participate actively in team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes. Required Skills & Experience * Proven experience in RF design or a closely related role. * Skilled in PCB design tools and RF simulation software. * Strong knowledge of RF components and technologies. * Experience designing linear high-power broadband RF amplifiers (up to 200W), preferably with GaN or LDMOS devices. * Familiarity with RF filter design and transmitter/receiver architectures. * Experience designing LNA, upconverter, downconverter circuits, and antennas. * Solid understanding of both analogue and digital electronics. * EMC design experience and practical use of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, and spectrum analyzers. * Hands-on experience with PCB prototyping and rework. * Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills. * Ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams. * Ability to perform well under pressure with a proactive “can-do” approach. Preferred Qualifications * Experience with RF design aligned to communications technologies. * Proficient with Altium Designer for PCB layout. * Experience using Cadence AWR Microwave Office and Ansys HFSS. * Familiarity with switch-mode power supplies, embedded systems, glue logic, and EMC circuitry. * Knowledge of military or airborne electronic design standards (MIL-STD, DO-160) is advantageous. * Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience). Additional Information British citizenship or eligibility for Security Clearance (SC) is required. Travel requirements are minimal. Hybrid working available (typically 3 days in office, 2 days remote).
