About the role

Redbourn Park is expanding! Our little school is now moving to KS4. We are looking for an energetic, passionate and aspirational part time Science teacher. Working in small groups of just 4-6 students, you'll play a vital role in supporting our children's educational journey.

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality science education and creating a stimulating learning environment that promotes engagement, understanding, and achievement in scientific concepts and practices.

This role involves planning and implementing effective and adaptive lessons, assessing student progress, and contributing to the overall development of the science curriculum within the school. The ideal candidate will be an empathetic and innovative teacher, with experience in supporting students with special educational needs, including Autism and PDA. We dont believe in putting glass ceilings over our childrens abilities and with that we need teachers to be positive and aspirational in their teaching approach.

Redbourn Park is a specialist organisation supporting children and young people with complex needs, particularly autism, trauma, and social, emotional, and mental health difficulties. We exist for pupils who have often struggled elsewhere and need more than standard education can offer. Key Responsibilities
* Plan and deliverengaging and adaptive science lessons aligned with the national curriculum, including GCSE science or equivalents.

* Develop and adapt teachingmaterials and resources to meet the diverse needs of students, ensuring inclusivity for all learners.

* Implement inquiry-based learning and practicalexperiments to enhance student understanding and engagement.

* Reporton student progress to parents and senior leadership, ensuring clear communication regarding academic performance.

* Use assessment data to inform lesson planningand identify areas for improvement in student learning.

* Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environmentconducive to learning, promoting respect and collaboration among students.

* Foster a culture of high expectations,encouraging students to take ownership of their learning but understanding that they will need additional support with this.


Collaboration and Professional Development

* Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the science curriculum and share best practices.

* Participate in professional development opportunities to improve teaching skills and stay updated with educational trends and methodologies.

Student Support and Engagement

* Provide additional support and guidance to students who may be struggling with scientific concepts, including individualised, tailored interventions.

* Encourage student participation in extracurricular science activities and initiatives, fostering a love for science beyond the classroom.

* Involve parents in their childrens education by providing regular updates and opportunities for engagement in science-related activities.

* Enhance student achievement by improving understanding and performance in science.

* Promote scientific literacy by fostering a strong foundation in scientific knowledge and skills that prepares students for further education and careers in science.

* Encourage critical thinking by developing students problem-solving skills through inquiry-based learning and practical experiments.

* Contribute to curriculum development by actively participating in the review and enhancement of the science curriculum to meet the needs of all learners.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

* Relevant experience or qualifications for the role

* Strong communication and organisational skills

* Ability to manage workload, prioritise effectively, and meet deadlines


Desirable:

* Experience in a similar environment or sector

* Additional training or specialist knowledge relevant to the role
