Consultant in Microbiology – Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
CRH offers a wide range of exciting and rewarding opportunities for people passionate about providing exceptional patient care. We are looking to appoint a Consultant in Microbiology to further develop our highly rated services at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.
You will become part of a team which takes joint responsibility for the medical supervision of the Trust’s microbiology department and infection control processes. The role offers the opportunity to develop a sub‑specialty interest.
Responsibilities
* Provide medical supervision of the microbiology department and infection control processes.
* Work a 1 in 5 out‑of‑hours commitment, providing a telephone advice service for laboratory or clinical staff.
* Collaborate with colleagues to jointly lead on antimicrobial stewardship, infection control, laboratory management and OPAT, providing cross‑cover where required.
* Participate in service development, including the potential establishment of an infection consult service and OPAT provision.
Qualifications
* MBChB or equivalent medical qualification.
* Full registration with the GMC and a licence to practise.
* Entry on the Specialist Register or eligibility to be added within 6 months of interview.
* Science degree or higher degree (excluding routine pathology training).
Experience
* Ability to work unsupervised at consultant level in clinical microbiology (and/or infectious diseases) and infection control.
* Experience of microbiology (or infectious diseases) service development.
* Experience with pathology networks and collaborative inter‑laboratory working.
* Experience in a managerial role.
* Experience working in an infection control team.
* Attendance of or enrolment in a management course relevant to laboratory medicine.
Skills
* Good written and oral communication skills.
* Awareness of the wider NHS context of laboratory practice.
