A forward-thinking and supportive secondary school in Newham is seeking a passionate History Teacher to join their Humanities department this September. This is a full-time, long-term position ideal for a teacher confident in delivering engaging history lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the potential to teach KS5 for the right candidate.
The school has a strong academic ethos and values historical education as a foundation for critical thinking, cultural awareness, and civic responsibility. They are keen to recruit an educator who can connect the curriculum to students’ lives and the wider world.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver inspiring, well-structured history lessons to KS3–KS4 students
Prepare students for assessments and GCSE examinations in line with exam board requirements
Foster analytical thinking, debate, and historical enquiry
Use creative teaching methods and relevant case studies to enhance pupil understanding of key periods and themes
Monitor and assess student progress, providing targeted feedback and support
Contribute to extracurricular activities such as history clubs, themed days, or school trips to historical sites
Candidate Requirements:
✔ UK QTS or equivalent with a recognised teaching qualification
✔ Experience teaching History in a UK secondary school setting
✔ Strong subject knowledge and up-to-date understanding of the History curriculum
✔ Ability to inspire curiosity and critical thinking in learners of all abilities
✔ Effective behaviour management and communication skills
✔ A collaborative, proactive, and reflective approach to teaching
