Job description
This contract role is centred around the successful completion of medium-scale civil engineering projects in Portsmouth, particularly focusing on highway assets.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support and lead the project management of highway and civil engineering schemes from inception to completion
2. Prepare estimates, monitor, and review project costs to ensure completion within agreed budgets
3. Achieve required levels of quality and ensure value for money
4. Provide project management throughout the life cycle of a project, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery
5. Appoint and manage contractors, ensuring accurate and up-to-date Project Initiation Documentation (PID)
6. Represent the team and council at meetings, assist in consultations, and liaise with stakeholders
7. Prepare and present reports to Project Boards and other relevant bodies as required
8. Encourage junior project managers to pursue personal development through effective supervision and allocation of work
Job Requirements:
9. Professional project management qualification (e.g. Prince 2) and ideally membership of an appropriate professional body (e.g. APM)
10. Experience in managing small-scale civil engineering projects, including NEC contracts
11. Ability to lead project teams with strong delegation and management skills
12. Commercial awareness with experience in strict budgetary controls and financial analysis
13. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage time effectively
14. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and written skills
15. Experience in preparing reports and conducting research
16. Knowledge of relevant legislation and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, including Project
