Keswick Ward Staff Nurse (Community Hospitals)
Staff Nurse Keswick Community Hospital – 30 hour position available.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the friendly and enthusiastic nursing team at Keswick Ward based in the heart of the Lake District. The ward currently supports 16 patients with various health conditions to reach their baseline and optimum level, and return to their chosen environment, whether that be home or alternative care facilities. The focus is on complex discharge planning, multi‑disciplinary working, and supporting patients in decision‑making.
We are looking for Band 5 Staff Nurses to join our supportive team to deliver high quality, holistic care as part of a well‑established multi‑disciplinary team. The successful candidate should be motivated and enthusiastic about delivering holistic care, and have a desire to develop their knowledge and skills in discharge processes and supporting patients through education and lifestyle choices.
As a community ward we are a busy unit admitting step‑up patients from the community and step‑down patients from the acute sector with varying health conditions. We also support many patients with palliative conditions and chronic decline. The post requires individuals to work under pressure, with accuracy and effective communication and collaboration is a key aspect of this role.
Main duties of the job
The role requires a candidate passionate about holistic care to support patients and their families for end‑of‑life care and safe discharges. Clinical skills include male and female catheterisation, venepuncture, cannulation, administration of IV medication, ECGs, wound care, and other patient care tasks.
Shift pattern
Hours are offered on rotation. The schedule consists of 12‑hour shifts, including weekends, bank holidays, and nights. Shift patterns are subject to change for service needs.
Qualifications and Experience
* Band 5 registration as a Staff Nurse.
* Post‑registration clinical skills (e.g., IV cannulation and administration).
* Demonstrable recent nursing experience.
* Experience at a community ward or acute or palliative care setting (advantageous).
* Experience in discharge planning, multi‑disciplinary collaboration, and end‑of‑life care.
* Evidence of motivation and ability to work as part of a team.
* Experience with clinical care on a 12‑hour shift rota is a plus.
Knowledge and Competency
* Broad knowledge base of acute and chronic conditions.
* Understanding of scope of professional practice and reflective practice.
* Understanding of changing health services and how they are planned and delivered.
* Knowledge of safe‑guarding children (Level 2 training).
* Self‑awareness and appreciation of limitations, and ability to manage change.
Skills and Aptitudes
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality.
* Enthusiasm and ability to work as part of a team.
* Ability to use initiative and prioritise effectively.
* Leadership or supervisory experience is a plus.

Salary: £32,073 to £39,043 per annum, pro‑rata.
Note: The trust may provide a twelve‑month preceptorship period for new to registration nurses, midwives and allied health professionals. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks will be undertaken.
