Job Title: Clerk to Governors Salary: £2,031 - £2,171 per annum Hours: 130 annualised hours Location: St Egwin's CE Middle School Permanent We are seeking a positive and organised Clerk to Governors to join our school. Whilst experience is preferred, the right attitude, flexibility and willingness to learn are equally important. Main purpose: You will play a key part in ensuring the Governing body is focused on its governance role and to strengthening the governance framework in the school to support it's continued success. The successful candidate will have a track record of working in a governance role or in a complex and regulated environment, be highly organised, able to offer attention to detail and have excellent communication skills. Due to the nature of the work, the role requires flexibility during term time and the successful candidate will work both in school and from home according to the demands of the role. Duties and Responsibilities Advice and Guidance To provide expert advice on governance, constitutional and procedural matters, ensuring the governing body understand their statutory duties, relevant legislation, and best practices, including guidance from the Department for Education and other regulatory frameworks. Meeting Administration Organisation and co-ordination of all Governing Body activity. Preparation of Full Board Meetings and Committee Meetings, ensuring agenda, minutes and supporting documents are accurate, timely and accessible. Managing complaints or appeals processes when escalated to Governing Body level. Record Keeping and Compliance Maintenance of policies, procedural documents and registers of interests to support transparency and compliance. Ensuring statutory policies are in place and highlight when reviews are required. St Egwin’s is a Middle School for pupils aged between 10-13 years old. We are proud to be a Church School that is at the heart of our community, working with an inclusive and comprehensive outlook. We have 450 pupils on roll across the 3 years [Y6, Y7 & Y8]. Following very positive Ofsted and SIAMS inspections in the last two academic years, we are working hard on embedding a knowledge-based curriculum with high ambitions for all pupils. We are a comprehensive school and offer a positive and supportive environment. We are pupil centred and have academic and moral aspirations for all of our pupils. Children who leave St Egwin’s predominantly go on to study at Prince Henry’s High School where their GCSE and A Level results are consistently well above national averages. St Egwin’s CE Middle recognises that our staff are our most valuable asset and investing in our people is a key strategic priority. We offer a warm, welcoming and dedicated professional team of staff. Well-being of staff matters to us and is seen in how the school is run on a day-to-day basis. Closing date is Sunday 31st May 2026. We reserve the right to close this vacancy earlier than the date advertised. We are advertising the role as 130 annualised hours. This averages at c. 3.5 hours per week but dependent on meetings and commitments, may be more or less than this each week. Meetings are scheduled at the beginning of each academic year.
