Our Travel and Tourism section at Uxbridge Campus offers a range of travel-related courses to our learners, with a focus on the airline/aviation and hospitality industries. Working with local employers at and around Heathrow airport, we successfully prepare learners for careers in the sector and/or higher education.
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our friendly and successful team on a full time basis, to teach on a range of Travel and Tourism courses to our students, predominantly 16-19 year olds, specialising in Aviation, from Level 1 to Level 5.
You will need to possess a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject area (a degree is highly desirable) and have experience of working in the travel industry including experience of aviation, together with some teaching or training experience. You will have good communication and interpersonal skills and be able to engage and motivate young vocational learners aged 16-19. We will support you to develop your career in teaching, including fully funding the Level 5 teaching qualification which is undertaken at the College.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POST
The main purpose of the job is to ensure the retention and achievement of students through the delivery of good practice in teaching and learning. The Lecturer will teach, develop and improve programmes of study in subjects and courses relevant to the post-holder’s knowledge, qualifications and experience.
Recruitment of Students
1. Participate in open evenings and recruitment activities to ensure that potential applicants and students receive accurate information and guidance.
2. Complete and contribute to the production of accurate information and fact sheets.
3. Interview potential applicants and contribute to the College’s interviewing schedules.
4. Contribute to the development, promotion and delivery of the team’s marketing and recruitment strategies.
Induction and Support for Students
5. Carry out student inductions and contribute to the design of induction programmes.
6. Produce course handbooks.
7. Carry out academic progress reviews, including the completion of necessary documents.
8. Where appropriate act as a named tutor and liaise with the College’s Attendance Co-ordinators to ensure the attendance, retention and achievement of students.
9. Understand and keep up-to-date with student support and learning support arrangements, ensuring students have full information and making appropriate referrals.
10. Where appropriate ensure that basic skills initial and diagnostic assessments, are undertaken and that students receive effective learning support.
11. Ensure that resources within your subject area are kept up-to-date and accessible to students and other staff in liaison with the curriculum managers and the College’s Learning Centres.
12. Prepare students for employability, career progression and/or further education and training.
13. Produce reports and attend events to provide information to parents/employers.
Qualifications:
14. Minimum of Level 3 in Travel and Tourism or a related area (degree highly desirable)
15. English and Maths at GCSE Grade C /4 or equivalent, or willing to achieve
16. Minimum Level 5 teaching qualification recognised by the FE sector (e.g. DET or equivalent**) or willingness and ability to work towards this, supported by the College
17. Driving licence and willingness and ability to undertake minibus driving training
Knowledge and Experience:
18. Teaching or training experience in the relevant subject area
19. Experience of working within the travel and tourism industry, including experience of the aviation industry
20. Up to date knowledge of the relevant subject area
