Risk Data Business Analyst – AVP

My client is one of the largest financial institutions headquartered in Japan, with an established presence across all consumer and corporate banking businesses. Through its subsidiaries and affiliates, they offer a diverse range of financial services, including commercial banking, leasing, securities, credit card, consumer finance and other services.
They are looking for a Risk Data Business Analyst AVP to join the Risk Management Department on an initial 6-month contract. In this position you will be working Monday to Friday being office based 3 days a week, standard working hours with the occasional need to work out of normal hours in line with the business requirements.
This role is critical to delivering the BCBS239 Data Governance programme, ensuring high-quality, accurate, and reliable risk data across Credit Risk, Market Risk, Liquidity Risk, and Operational Risk domains.
You will work closely with stakeholders across Risk, Compliance, Technology, and Data Management teams to implement data governance frameworks, define data lineage, and improve data quality. The position requires strong business analysis skills, stakeholder engagement, and the ability to influence and educate on data governance best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
* Implement data governance and standards across risk domains in line with BCBS239 requirements.
* Define and maintain data definitions, lineage, and quality controls for key use cases.
* Collaborate with the EMEA Data Office and risk teams to embed governance processes.
* Investigate data quality issues, develop remediation plans, and ensure fixes at source.
* Produce full suite of BA documentation including requirements, traceability matrices, and operating models.
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Strong knowledge of data governance, data management, and BCBS239 principles.
* Experience in Tier 1/Tier 2 banking and regulated environments.
* Understanding of risk data across multiple disciplines.
* Proficiency in Excel, Visio, PowerPoint; exposure to Collibra, Power BI, Tableau desirable.
* Excellent stakeholder engagement, problem-solving, and communication skills.
* Degree or equivalent experience in a quantitative discipline.
Desirable:
* Exposure to SQL, VBA, and data governance tools.
* Knowledge of data-related regulatory requirements and emerging trends.
