An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and innovative individual to join the Cwm Taf Morgannwg Local Public Health Team as a Principal Public Health Practitioner.
This strategic role focuses on substance use and is jointly funded by the Cwm Taf Morgannwg Area Planning Board (APB) and Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB), hosted by the CTMUHB Public Health Team.
The role involves working closely with APB officers and serving as a senior member of the CTMUHB Public Health Team. Given that alcohol and drugs significantly contribute to morbidity and mortality in our region, there is an urgent need to strengthen our strategic approach.
The post holder will be part of the CTMUHB Public Health Team's strategic group and will provide public health expertise to the APB's work, collaborating with APB officers based at Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council.
We support agile working, including home working and working across various office sites in Cwm Taf Morgannwg, with opportunities to co-locate with APB officers in Rhondda Cynon Taff.
The Role Will Be Responsible For
* Raising the profile of the substance use agenda regionally and within CTMUHB.
* Providing local leadership and enhancing our strategic approach to reducing harms from alcohol and drugs.
* Offering public health expertise to the commissioning cycle for substance use services in CTM.
* Connecting with the regional health protection system and harm reduction initiatives.
There will be opportunities to collaborate with national colleagues to advocate for stronger leadership and action on substance use in Wales. As this is a new role, there is scope to develop it further in response to emerging priorities in partnership with the APB and Public Health Consultant.
It will be essential to work with various partner agencies and align with the priorities of the APB, health board, and national strategies as they evolve. Experience in substance use or commissioning will be highly valued.
Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board is part of NHS Wales, providing primary, secondary, and community health services to around 450,000 residents across Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil, and Rhondda Cynon Taff.
