Ward 36 (gastroenterology and hepatology) have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced health care support worker to join our friendly and dynamic team. We are looking for caring individuals who have a flexible approach to working and have previous experience of band 2 or band 3 health care support worker .
The successful applicants must possess excellent communication skills and enjoy working as part of a team. We require a health care support worker who has drive and passion for this area of work and is committed to the deliver a high standard of care.
The post advertised will have a probationary period where the successful candidates will be expected to have completed the relevant training, OSCEs and gained competence in cannulation, venepuncture, wound dressings, observations and assist with procedures that support diagnosis e.g. urine or stool samples. .

Main duties of the job
Our successful candidate will:
Assist the registered practitioner in providing high quality compassionate care and assistance to patients/relatives and their carers, appropriate to their needs.
Be responsible for carrying out tasks as delegated by the registered practitioner, who has overall accountability for delegating care.
Provide pastoral support to new starters to the ward in a kind and compassionate manner.
Use their own initiative within the level of competence to complete day to day activities for the role.
Comply with the Trust’s vision, values and behavioural Framework.

Essential criteria
9. Completion of the Skills for Health Care Certificate (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
10. Level 3 qualification or equivalent (UK equivalent) (Health and Social Care qualification preferred) or working towards
11. Numeracy/literacy skills to Level 1 (GCSE Grade 2-3, D-F or equivalent)
Experience
Essential criteria
12. 1-year’s previous experience in a Health Care Support Worker role

13. Demonstrable effective written and verbal communication skills
14. Basic IT skills, able to digitally record observations accurately and use applications such as email on a computer or smart device (e.g. tablet).
15. Ability to prioritise tasks
16. Competent to record and escalate patient observations, undertake venepuncture, and to be trained in cannulation.
Desirable criteria
17. Able to escalate to colleagues about anything which falls outside the scope of role.
18. Able to accurately communicate health-related information to patients and colleagues in an understandable way, adapting communication style to meet the needs of the recipient.
19. Able to use my own initiative in relation to the tasks associated with role.
