Salary: £45,.52 – £49,.62 depending on experience
Job Type: Full-time, permanent
Sector: Energy from Waste, Power Generation, Process Plant, Utilities
Are you experienced in permit-to-work systems, isolation procedures, safe systems of work, high-pressure boilers, steam turbines or process plant operations?
This is an excellent opportunity to join a modern waste-to-energy power plant in Stoke-on-Trent, taking a lead role in the implementation and organisation of a digital permit-to-work system across a complex operational environment involving high-pressure systems, LV/HV electrical equipment, boilers, turbines, flue gas treatment and water treatment plant.
You’ll work closely with operations, maintenance and shift teams to develop and standardise isolation procedures, risk assessments, SSOWs and permit processes, helping to embed safe, consistent and compliant working practices across the site.
As Senior Isolation and Permit Co-ordinator, you will support the transition from a paper-based system to a digital permit-to-work platform, ensuring contractors, operators and maintenance teams are working safely, correctly and in line with site procedures.
You will help design, update and produce safe systems of work, isolation procedures and risk assessments, while acting as a key link between operations, maintenance, contractors and site management.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and support the transition to a digital permit-to-work system
Standardise and write process procedures, isolation procedures, risk assessments and SSOWs
Manage and monitor permit and isolation activity across plant operations and maintenance
Support safe operation of boilers, steam turbines, LV/HV equipment, flue gas treatment and water treatment systems
Review contractor RAMS and ensure compliance with site and HSE requirements
Liaise between operations teams, maintenance teams and site contractors
Ensure anyone accepting or working under a permit is competent and authorised
Support training and help embed safe working practices across the plant
Maintain strong working relationships across operations, maintenance and management
What We’re Looking For
You will ideally have experience in one or more of the following environments:
Energy from Waste, power generation, biomass, utilities, process plant, heavy industrial, chemical, petrochemical, manufacturing, oil and gas, water treatment, wastewater, COMAH or high-pressure steam plant.
You should bring:
Experience with permit-to-work systems and isolation procedures
Knowledge of high-pressure boilers, steam turbines or process plant operations
Experience with LV electrical apparatus; HV awareness would be useful
Understanding of RAMS, risk assessments, SSOWs and contractor control
Strong health and safety mindset
Good computer literacy, ideally including digital permit systems and DCS / Microsoft platforms
Confidence working with operational teams, contractors and site management
Ability to work at height and manage confined space / restricted entry activities
APLV and APMPS qualifications would be highly desirable
IOSH or NEBOSH would be advantageous
Why Apply?
This is a role for someone who enjoys being at the centre of safe plant operations. You’ll be joining a technically challenging energy-from-waste / power generation environment, where your knowledge of permits, isolations, procedures and contractor control will directly support safe and efficient site performance.
You’ll have the opportunity to help shape and improve how permit-to-work activity is managed on site, while working closely with experienced operations and maintenance teams.
This role could suit someone currently working as a:
Permit Co-ordinator, Isolation Co-ordinator, Senior Authorised Person, Permit Officer, Operations Technician, Shift Team Leader, Plant Operator, Process Operator, Maintenance Co-ordinator, Boiler Operator, Steam Plant Operator, Energy from Waste Technician, Power Station Operator or Safe Systems of Work Co-ordinator.
It may also suit candidates from Royal Navy, RAF, REME or wider ex-forces engineering backgrounds, particularly those with experience of isolations, permits, plant operations, high-pressure systems, mechanical/electrical safety or controlled maintenance environments.
