Job Title: Homelessness Prevention and Solutions Officer
Salary Range: £38,976 to £47,229 per annum
Employment type: Full-time (36 hours) – Permanent and one Fixed Term until March 2028
Location: Civic Centre, 44 York Street, Twickenham, TW1 3BZ
Objective of role
We are looking for a capable and ambitious individual keen to help families and individuals facing homelessness, supporting them in their homelessness journey and ensuring adherence to legislative guidance, policy and procedures.
Responsibilities
* Work proactively and collaboratively with households who are homeless or threatened with homelessness, assisting them to sustain their current housing where possible or secure alternative, suitable and affordable accommodation.
* Hold a personal caseload of households and agree practical and reasonable steps for the council and the household to take to prevent and/or relieve homelessness.
* Provide a flexible and responsive service for applicants by delivering services from our offices, ensuring comprehensive housing advice is available for customers, staff and partner agencies.
* Carry out home visits to assess homelessness and the sustainability of the applicant’s current housing.
* Engage and work collaboratively with families and individuals who require housing assistance.
* Discuss, negotiate and persuade families and their landlords to prevent and relieve homelessness.
* Write reasoned decision letters, carry out interviews and produce case notes and assessments of a high standard.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
* Experience working within a customer service, housing or lettings service.
* Experience carrying out interviews, investigations and negotiations.
* Experience of effective record keeping, including electronically held information.
* Experience working with people who are homeless or in stressful situations.
* Experience working successfully to performance targets and deadlines.
* Excellent interpersonal skills including active listening and negotiating.
* Excellent communication skills including the ability to write detailed case notes and technical letters.

* Good listener, able to apply what is heard to the legal framework.
* Organised, able to keep on top of changing priorities.
* Motivated, engaged team player.
