Cloud Foundations (Azure) – Edge Cloud Platform Engineer (C4)
This role is largely remote, requiring attendance at the Coventry office approximately once a month.

We are looking for an Azure Edge Cloud Engineer to join a team dedicated to delivering and managing the Azure Cloud Platform. Your work will ensure the scalability, reliability, security, and efficiency of the environments hosting Sainsbury’s applications.
Role Summary:
We seek a Cloud Platform Engineer passionate about Azure, Infrastructure as Code, and automation. This role focuses on delivering and operating our Azure Cloud Platform that powers Sainsbury’s Services and Applications. You will play a key role in ensuring our environments are scalable, reliable, secure, and cost-efficient, while driving continuous improvement and leading the delivery of top-tier cloud services.
What You’ll Do:
1. Build and Run Scalable Infrastructure: Use advanced tools and technologies to deliver robust Cloud Infrastructure via Infrastructure as Code. Collaborate with Product Owners, Engineers, and Architects to design solutions that meet customer needs and business objectives, while improving reliability, efficiency, governance, and security.
2. Azure Expertise: Experience with Azure services to design, deploy, and manage scalable infrastructure, including container management.
3. Passion for Automation: Strong commitment to automation and modern DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines.
4. Infrastructure as Code: Hands-on experience with Terraform, Bicep, or similar tools.
5. Tooling and Innovation: Ability to develop custom tools or leverage open-source solutions to enhance platform efficiency and usability.
6. Enhance Cloud Capabilities: Develop internal tools to improve platform speed, security, and cost-efficiency. Automate deployment and configuration with a focus on security and repeatability.
7. Monitor new features and assess operational implications to improve services.
8. Ensure strict Identity and Access Management controls.
9. Monitor infrastructure using thresholds and alerts, responding appropriately.
10. Maintain documentation of support processes and operational issues.
11. Collaborate Across Teams: Work with engineers across platforms to create reliable, reusable cloud solutions. Collaborate on automated pipelines and work closely with stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
12. Ensure Operational Excellence: Deliver a platform meeting security, availability, and performance standards. Participate in a 24/7 on-call rota as needed.
What You Need to Know & Show:
* Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure or similar Cloud Platform.
* Experience with Terraform and programming languages such as TypeScript, NodeJS, and ReactJS.
* Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools like Kubernetes and AKS, with GitOps practices using ArgoCD and GitActions.
* Familiarity with Azure PaaS services for application development and deployment.
* Experience working in fast-paced DevOps environments.
* Proficiency in automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.
* Experience with source control tools like GitHub and GitHub Actions.
* Understanding of Service Operations, SRE, and ITIL responsibilities.
* Knowledge of Agile methodologies.
* Up-to-date with cloud technologies and general IT knowledge.
* Proven cloud operations experience with best practices and mentoring skills.
