A vacancy has arisen for a part-time phlebotomist to join a friendly and dedicated team providing a high-quality phlebotomy service at Furness General Hospital. The team serves hospital inpatients, outpatients, and patients referred by primary care.
The hours of work are 8.5 hours per week, working each Friday from 08:00 to 17:00, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.
Previous phlebotomy experience is desirable.
Responsibilities include:
1. Ensuring patient comfort and obtaining their consent for blood collection.
2. Collecting blood samples according to training and procedures.
3. Ensuring samples are placed into appropriate containers with accurate, legible labeling to confirm patient identity.
4. Verifying patient identity against records and confirming with the patient when possible.
5. Dispatching samples to laboratories promptly.
6. Reporting any anomalies to a senior staff member.
7. Notifying ward staff of significant patient issues.
Our services operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as various community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and RLI offer comprehensive hospital services, including Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various specialist services. WGH provides general hospital services along with an Urgent Treatment Centre for non-life-threatening conditions.
All three hospitals provide outpatient services, diagnostics, therapies, day surgeries, and inpatient care. Community outreach services and diagnostics are also available across Morecambe Bay.
