ADHD Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Nurse to join our ADHD nursing team in Ashford Kent.

You will have oversight of the treatment of young people with an ADHD diagnosis; providing psycho‑education and working alongside the professional network for the best outcome of the young person. You will be part of a wider ADHD team as well as the locality team; where you will have the opportunity to work alongside other professionals when there is co‑morbidity with ADHD.

Driven by the principles underpinning the national CYP‑IAPT programme (Children and Young People’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) the service provides the latest in evidence‑based NICE compliant psychological interventions to children, young people and their families experiencing emotional wellbeing and mental health difficulties. You will be a highly motivated and innovative individual with clinical experience working with children and young people with emotional wellbeing and mental health difficulties.


Main duties of the job

* Ensuring that young people on the caseload are seen routinely as per NICE guidance to monitor the effectiveness of ADHD medication in managing symptoms.
* Ensuring that physical health checks are completed and escalating any concerns to the ADHD team.
* Being part of an MDT; working alongside other ADHD nurses to review the caseload and improve the service‑user experience.
* Working alongside other professionals to share information and experience of how to support young people.
* Being part of the wider MDT; attending team meetings and sharing any concerns.
* Supporting junior staff.
* Accessing further training to develop ADHD knowledge and skills.
* Contributing to the ADHD assessment process: completing school observations and Qb tests.


About NELFT’s Children & Young People’s Mental Health Services (CYPMHS)

NELFT’s CYPMHS is for anybody aged between 0‑18, living in Kent and is free at the point of entry. The service is also for young people with special educational needs (SEN) up to the age of 25.


Structure of Children & Young People’s Mental Health Services (CYPMHS)

There is one Children’s Single Point of Access (SPA), a Neurodevelopmental & Learning Disabilities Service, nine Locality Teams and a Crisis and Home Treatment Team. These are located across North Kent (Dartford), West Kent (Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells), South Kent (Folkestone & Dover), East Kent (Thanet), Swale, Ashford and Canterbury and Coastal.

Probationary Period

Starting with NELFT

NELFT places a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop‑in sessions focussing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Person Specification

Qualifications (Essential)

* Successful completion of nurses training
* To be eligible for registration as a full member of the NMC

Experience (Essential)

* Experience of working with young people with neurodevelopmental and learning disabilities
* Experience of carrying out generic assessment with other colleagues in the multi‑disciplinary team
* Experience of providing clinical interventions in different cultural contexts
