Ultra Precision Control Systems (PCS) are looking for a Principal Engineer to join the Engineering Function. In this role you will lead, develop and support Safety Design in order that both project and statutory requirements are met and to improve the effectiveness of the safety design function within the company. Key Responsibilities: To be a technical arbiter within the Safety Design Group Ensure timely delivery to customers Contributes towards engineering company strategy To support the Technology Director as required To lead and manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers to meet the project objectives and to ensure the necessary tools and equipment are available at the right time To support bids with projects as required To competently resolve technical problems associated with assigned products Ensure the manufacturing costs for new products are defined and manage the engineering activity to ensure targets are met Responsible for assisting project leaders to deliver, attending project review meetings as required Ensure adequate constructive challenge is presented in design reviews to identify and mitigate any key issues To review and update engineering procedures regularly to ensure they remain up to date and compliant Build and maintain excellent internal and external customer relationships Prepare reports for internal and external use Prepare and deliver presentations as required Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures to ensure accreditation requirements are consistently met Be prepared to travel to support current and future products on customers sites around the world General Experience: Extensive in depth experience of safety and reliability in aerospace Ability to successfully lead and manage small/medium size team Ability to performance manage Technically competent to assess and manage technical risk in their area and honestly presenting the detail and the wider impact Familiar with appropriate standards within area Sound analytical and problem solving skills by applying practical and economic solutions to any problems encountered Able to communicate succinctly and accurately on technical issues and schemes with internal and external customers and the team Good communication skills both verbally and in writing Proactively able to manage own work and the work of others to in order to achieve objectives Specific Experience: Conversant with aerospace safety design and assessment (FMEA FTA etc.) Competent with relevant CAD tools usage Conversant with safety and certification requirements for aerospace Conversant with the responsibilities of acting as a Compliance Verification Engineer An enthusiastic participant with other skill groups within projects Conversant with SAE ARP4761/4754 etc. Conversant with DO160, DO178, DO254 Conversant with MIL HDBK 217 reliability calculations and alternatives Conversant with the manufacturing techniques used for aerospace electronics Able and willing to participate and organise product investigations resulting from aircraft incidents Desirable Experience: Exposure and experience with some of the following is required: Familiarity with aerospace materials Familiarity with configuration and part control Familiarity with aspects of PCB design Familiarity with aspects of EMC techniques Familiarity with reliability and reliability prediction Familiarity with system design practice Security Clearance: Due to the nature of the work carried out at Ultra, all applicants must be eligible for SC Clearance.
