Veterinary Surgeon - Small Animal
Mainstone Veterinary Clinic | Romsey, Hampshire
Salary up to £65,000 DOE and Welcome Bonus up to £3,000
Mainstone Practice is a long‑established veterinary surgery in Romsey with a strong community reputation and a genuinely supportive team culture. We’re looking for a confident Veterinary Surgeon to join us, working with a varied small animal caseload including cats, dogs, small furries and occasional wildlife cases.
Responsibilities
You’ll work collaboratively with the wider practice team to deliver a high standard of patient and client care across a varied and rewarding caseload. The role includes:
* This is a full‑time role of 40 hours per week, working between 8:30am and 7pm, with one in five Saturday mornings from 8:30am to 12:30pm.
* There is no out‑of‑hours work, and we’re happy to consider part‑time applications for the right candidate.
Your week will include a well‑balanced mix of consultations and surgery, with a caseload that is both varied and rewarding. While much of our work involves routine procedures, we also see orthopaedic cases and occasional emergency presentations, ensuring plenty of clinical variety. There are elements of sole charge within the role, so you’ll be expected to make independent clinical decisions when needed.
We’ve invested significantly in our facilities to support the delivery of high‑quality patient care. Our practice is fully equipped with multiparameter monitoring in both theatre and dental, Doppler blood pressure monitoring, syringe drivers, multiple infusion pumps, comprehensive in‑house IDEXX laboratory equipment, a floating X‑ray table, and a dedicated dental suite with dental radiography.
We’re proud to hold Silver Cat Friendly status, with dedicated cat‑only clinic times designed to create a calm and stress‑free environment for our feline patients.
You Might Be a Great Fit
* A Veterinary degree and registration (or eligibility to register) with the RCVS.
* Experience working in clinical practice with growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues.
* A proactive approach to learning, with openness to feedback and development.
* Professionalism, reliability, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
How We’ll Support You
* Clear career pathways with progression opportunities across primary care, referral, leadership, and specialist roles.
* Funded learning and development, including CPD allowance and access to IVC Academy training centres & role‑relevant courses.
* £1,250 annual Care Fund for every vet.
* Access to mentors, regional clinical coaches, and peer networks.
* Support to develop clinical interests and expand your capabilities.
* A collaborative, values‑led culture focused on care, community, and continuous improvement.
What We Offer Our Team
* 6.6 weeks’ holiday including bank holidays.
* Private medical insurance.
* Enhanced family leave and pay across maternity, paternity, adoption and surrogacy.
* BVA membership, VDS cover & RCVS fees.
* Cycle‑to‑Work and Green Car schemes (eligibility applies).
* Retail discounts and cashback offers.
* Reduced‑cost veterinary care for your own pets.
