Deputy Clinic Manager - Broadgreen Dialysis Unit

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a dynamic, motivated team of renal nurses who deliver a high standard of specialist care at the renal dialysis clinic situated in the grounds of Liverpool's Broadgreen Hospital. You will be working in a friendly and supportive environment, providing comprehensive care and support to patients and relatives and deputizing in the absence of the clinic manager.
The unit currently has 24 stations running from 07:00 - 00:00 hours, Monday - Saturday. The clinic is closed on Sundays. There are haemodialysis units at the Lower ground floor of the New Royal Liverpool Hospital, Warrington, St Helens and Halton hospitals, and there may be occasions when you will be asked to support at one of these clinics.
Main duties of the job
* Deputises in the absence of the Ward Manager
* Works in partnership with the Ward Manager to deliver unit objectives. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of evidence-based nursing care.
* Provides management and organisation of the clinical area.
* Participate in the education, development and line management of other staff members.
* Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.
* Participate in the improvement of services and the quality‑of‑care provision.
* Work in partnership with the Unit Manager to achieve LQA and CQC essential standards.
* In collaboration with the Unit Manager, you will be involved in the planning and implementation of developments relating to nursing.
* To work in partnership/collaboration with the Infection Prevention Control team to ensure the coordination and implementation of all IPC policies.
* Support the Unit Manager in the implementation of the Patient Experience and Engagement Strategy within the unit environment.
* Ensure effective and prompt reporting of nursing issues and concerns to the Unit Manager
* Support the Unit Manager to develop a Patient Safety Culture.
* Support the Unit Manager in the development of systems and processes to achieve key clinical quality indicators at the unit level. To be responsible for safeguarding all vulnerable adults within the ward area.
Job responsibilities
Act as a role model and expert nurse providing in depth highly specialist clinical knowledge to colleagues through MDT meetings, for patients and carers/relatives.
Undertake clinical supervision of nursing colleagues on an individual or group basis. Act as a resource for health care professionals by being visible, available and accessible for support and advice in relation to the management of patients in the speciality.
Ensure the effective and efficient use of physical and financial resources. Lead in consultations on and contribute to the development of strategies for delivering effective care within a changing environment that improves quality of care and health outcomes in the specialist area.
Assessment of the patient pre and post dialysis. Understanding of the Dialysis Prescription Blood Pressure and Weight management Access care ( Arterio‑venous fistula, graft, hero graft, femoral line and Central venous line )
Administration of intravenous medication during dialysis treatment. Monthly blood monitoring in line with Renal Association Guidelines Safe blood sampling, labelling, storage and transportation.
Fully competent in preparing the dialysis machine and consumables for different modalities. Understanding how the dialysis treatment works and how to troubleshoot, medically and technically.
To monitor the patient throughout the treatment recording and reporting any incidents, accidents concerns or changes.
Competent to administer anticoagulants during dialysis with awareness and understanding of the drug prescribed, contra‑indications, adverse effects and side effects. Competent to administer local anaesthesia as above.
To safely discontinue dialysis and remove fistula needles. Practice ANTT to competency Infection control, PPE and Blood Borne Virus awareness with strict adherence to policy and procedure.
Diabetes Awareness, foot checks and referral to relevant departments Liaison with the Nephrology Team, Renal Dieticians, Psychology, Cardiology, Transplant, and other related areas.
Named Nurse system and responsibilities for patient allocation Dialysis Care planning.
