What you’ll be doing
The Lead Engineer role sits within Engineering Design and Standards in the Process and Technology Department, specifically in the Switchgear Standards Team.
As a Lead Engineer your focus will be to provide SPEN’s Transmission and Distribution licenses with technical support and guidance to company leadership, peers and operational functions of the business in your area of your specialism. You will lead the development and implementation of equipment specifications for substations to ensure legal & licence compliance.
Perform all duties with a strong emphasis on health, safety, quality and environmental matters.
Lead the development of engineering strategies, including equipment specifications, substations assessment and approvals and contract engineering with the full engagement and consultation of relevant stakeholders.
Maintain an awareness of advances in technology, equipment and best practice and steer sustainable, innovative solutions across the Iberdrola Group.
Have the opportunity to participate in Iberdrola global working groups and best practice forums.
Actively engage with T&D substations & equipment suppliers through engineering specification development, tendering processes and the approval of system assets.
Lead communication with wider business stakeholders on the introduction of new plant and new processes.
Represent SPEN interests when liaising with external parties, such as network customers, suppliers and industry bodies (e.g. OFGEM, ENA, etc)
What you’ll bring
Knowledge of Substations equipment – knowledge of Transmission Switchgear and/or Power Electronics equipment particularly advantageous
Knowledge of Electricity Network design, operating philosophy and safety management practices
Knowledges of International equipment standards & specifications
Competence to investigate equipment failures and evaluate any associated risks.
Familiarity with Asset management techniques, practices & policy.
Experience of interfacing with suppliers (during equipment/design tenders and live contacts)
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical & non-technical audiences, verbally and in writing.
As a minimum, you will demonstrate:
Degree/HND/HNC (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline supported by experience in an operational, technical or commercial engineering role.
Knowledge of health & safety requirements and compliance.
Availability to travel to other locations, including abroad, engaging with key stakeholders and suppliers
