We are seeking a passionate, skilled, and experienced
Head of School to lead and manage our Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision. This is a vital leadership role supporting students with a wide range of educational and emotional needs, particularly in an alternative education setting. You will play a central part in ensuring high-quality teaching, meaningful pastoral support, and inclusive learning for all students with additional needs. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is motivated to make a real difference in the lives of young people. What Youll Be Doing
Lead the development and delivery of high-quality SEN support across the school.
Oversee the implementation and review of EHCPs, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
Support staff with effective strategies for differentiation and behaviour management.
Provide high levels of pastoral care and emotional support to students with diverse and often complex needs.
Collaborate with teachers, senior leaders, parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to student development.
Monitor and improve outcomes for students with SEN, using data and evidence to guide decision-making.
Champion safeguarding, inclusion, and equal opportunity for all learners.
What Were Looking For
Qualifications: Degree or equivalent qualification
Minimum Level 2 in Maths and English
QTS or QTLS is
essential
NPQSL, NPQH or specialist SEN qualifications are
desirable
Experience: Proven success teaching in secondary education
Strong leadership experience (e.g., previous Head of SEN or similar role)
Experience in alternative provision or working with vulnerable learners is highly valued
Familiarity with virtual learning platforms is a bonus
Skills & Knowledge: Deep understanding of safeguarding, SEND legislation, and inclusive education
Able to identify challenges and implement practical, student-focused solutions
Confident communicator with students, families, colleagues, and external partners
Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities
