We are looking for an enthusiastic Library & Culture Assistant (peripatetic) to join our team on a temporary basis.
As a Temp Library & Culture Assistant, you will ensure the daily operation of library services across West Dunbartonshire, assisting library users to access a variety of resources, activities, and support in a friendly and courteous manner. We aim to provide excellent customer care, so you should be a good communicator with recent experience working in a customer-facing role, demonstrating an outgoing, friendly, and courteous manner. Since our services use ICT, you will need a working knowledge of ICT, to the level of ECDL or equivalent.
The Libraries team manages eight public libraries, five school libraries, a mobile library, and a home delivery service. Libraries promote reading, inspire creativity, and support lifelong learning through free access to books, digital resources, computers, and information. Our activities include baby yoga, baby massage, Bookbug, storytime, school events, computer classes, author talks, and literature festivals. Libraries are integral to the local authority, meeting statutory duties, improvement targets, and local outcome objectives. We collaborate closely with various council departments and external partners to meet local and national priorities.
Contributions are made to the Council's Community and Service Plans and to national library strategies in collaboration with the Scottish Library and Information Council. Systems are in place to monitor service impact and ensure continuous improvement.
Requirements
This post is considered Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007, and membership with the PVG scheme is essential. Further details about the scheme can be found here.
Preferred applicants will be required to join the relevant PVG scheme or undergo an update check before a formal offer is made by West Dunbartonshire Council.
Responsibilities
The employment for which you are applying is excepted from section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) Order 1975. Applicants are not statutorily entitled to withhold information about convictions which are 'spent' under the Act. Failure to disclose such convictions could result in dismissal or disciplinary action.
