Job Title: Full-Time Lecturer in Civil Engineering Responsible to: Head of Department Sustainability Construction & Transport Job Purpose: To provide quality teaching and learning opportunities within the specific areas outlined in the post in order to maximise the potential of every student and to undertake non-lecturing duties as appropriate; to maximise income through industry engagement; to develop curriculum and curriculum teaching materials based on real world state of the art civil engineering projects. Location: The postholder will be based at Omagh Campus, however, the postholder will be required to be available for work at any of the College sites if required. Main Duties and Responsibilities: The College is in a developing situation and the responsibilities attached to this post will necessarily change over time. The successful candidate will be required to undertake the following duties: 1. Contribute to the development, organisation and delivery of suitable Education curriculum across the College leading to the award of various qualifications relating to Civil Engineering and related fields i.e Quantity Surveying within Civil Engineering and the use of specialised software such as Revit. 2. Contribute to developing the higher education provision for Civil Engineering within the college and across the regional sector. 3. Attend meetings on matters relating to students, including course co-ordination, management, assessment and curriculum development. 4. Participate in the marketing of and recruitment to courses within the subject/programme area, including the interviewing of students, attendance at parents evenings, prize-giving, open days, awards ceremonies and other similar departmental/college events. 5. Act as a course director. 6. Undertake assessment and moderation duties, internally and externally, in line with awarding body requirements. 7. Act as a personal tutor to students as required. 8. Participate in the student induction, monitoring and reviewing processes. 9. Contribute to the process of the requisitioning of equipment and consumables for the subject/programme area. 10. Establish links and on-going liaison with external partners. 11. Contribute to the review and evaluation of the curriculum provision. 12. Adhere to the value-for-money principle through efficient planning, organisation and delivery of said programmes. 13. Complete all administrative tasks associated with this post. 14.Contribute to the Colleges quality procedures and participate in continuous professional development relating to the subject/programme area, as well as the development and updating of personal and teaching skills, including new technologies. 15. Deliver learning, teaching and assessment on other college campuses, including out-centres. 16. Perform those duties which are core to the teaching function as follows: Produceschemesofworkandlessonpreparations. Setting and grading assignment work. Maintenance of student records, class registers and preparation of reports. Monitoringresourcesandtheiruse. Liaisingwithexternalexaminers,moderatorsandverifiers. Compliancewithdisciplinaryprocedures. 17. Contribute to the delivery of staff development training programmes for other teaching and support staff, as per line managers requirements; 18.Provide general advice on Health,Safety and maintenance matters relating to equipment and accommodation within the subject/programme area. 19. Adhere to College Health and Safety policies and procedures. 20.Providestudentswithprofessionalandeducationaladvice&guidance,in conjunction with Student Services department; 21. Organise and supervise work placements, if required. 22.ComplywithandactivelypromoteCollegepoliciesandproceduresonall aspects of equality. 23. Provision of timely, accurate course and student data using appropriate College systems for data management. 24. Any other duties which are in accordance with the College Local Agreement for Lecturing staff and Annex 1 of the Lecturers Contract. EssentialCriteria Method of Assessment Qualifications &Experience GCSE(oranyqualificationwhichis deemedtobeequivalent)inMathematics (GradeA*C)orEssentialSkillsLevel2 (or higher) in Numeracy, or NICATS Access Maths Modules. 2. GCSE (or any qualification which is deemed to be equivalent) in English (Grade A* C) or Essential Skills Level 2 (or higher) in Communication. 3. A university degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) plus 2 years relevant experience Or A university degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) plus a recognised teaching qualification Skills & Capabilities 1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills 2. The ability to motivate learners 3. The ability to work in a pressurised environment 4. The ability to adapt teaching practice and strategies depending on demand 5. Specialist knowledge of Civil Engineering 6. High level competency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite General Have access to a form of transport that enables you to carry out the duties of the post. Desirable Criteria Skills/ Qualifications 1. Experience of lecturing in a further/higher education environment. 2. Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline. Salary: Lecturer Salary £37,042- £42,917 (Points 3 5) Experience can be considered in relation to starting salary up to the maximum of £42,917 (plus £3,333 Thresholdand£1,735DeanePaymentifapplicable) ContractType: Permanent Hoursofwork: Theannualhoursare1440ofwhichupto828forstudent contact time and the remainder for associated duties. However, the post holder will be required to adopt a flexibleapproach(includingeveningwork)andtodevote such time as may be required by the exigencies of the service. Location: Omagh campus. Due to the nature of work within the College, it is anticipated that travel to all campus sites may be required.
