The Forum School
The Forum School and Residential Home is a 52-week residential specialist school providing quality therapeutic care and education for young people with Autism, severe learning difficulties, challenging behaviour, and complex needs. The children and young people attending the school are aged between 7 and 19 years and follow a school calendar aligned with Local Authority term dates.
The Forum School aims to reshape how specialists support young people into adulthood, preparing them for employment and lifelong fulfillment.
Purpose of the Role
The Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) ensures high standards of learning support. The role involves tasks similar to those of a Teaching Assistant, acting as a role model, and working alongside TAs and Learning Support Workers to provide support, coaching, and mentoring. Additionally, the HLTA assesses TA practice to enable NVQ 3 achievement and may supervise a class in the absence of a teacher, with support from senior staff. Excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism are essential.
As a HLTA you will:
Support students:
* Monitor and promote positive relationships between staff and students.
* Provide care and support for students individually and in groups, including responding to health issues and assisting with hygiene and personal care, aligned with Personal, Social and Health Education programs.
* Support students in participating in learning activities, tailored to their needs.
* Assist TAs and LSWs in developing students' literacy and numeracy skills.
Support Teachers:
* Collaborate with TAs to maintain quality support, ensuring tasks are under teacher guidance and addressing areas for improvement.
* Foster positive working relationships with colleagues, students, and the education team.
* Help organize the learning environment, prepare resources, and deliver activities.
* Support curriculum delivery by working with groups or individuals under teacher direction.
* Observe student performance, contribute to reports, and maintain confidentiality.
* Assist in planning and evaluating learning activities and progress.
* Support the use of ICT in the classroom.
