Technical Assistant | £30,000–£40,000
Location: Brentwood
Hours: Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 17:00 (40 hours/week)
Reports to: Technical Consultant
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Technical Assistant to support passive fire protection (PFP) projects from design through to completion. This role involves providing guidance on specifications and details, managing relationships with manufacturers, and ensuring the accurate dissemination of technical information internally.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Assistance
* Support the Technical Consultant in producing PFP project-specific designs, including selecting suitable products to meet performance requirements.
* Advise contractor design teams on passive fire protection requirements at various project stages, under guidance.
* Provide technical information and best practice advice to operational teams regarding installation.
2. Quality Assurance
* Conduct QA checks on fire compartmentation installations to ensure compliance with manufacturer instructions, certification requirements, and industry guidelines.
* Support internal teams to adhere to specifications and confirm any alterations affecting standard installation details.
* Maintain best practices in line with ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 standards and support compliance with health and safety regulations.
3. General
* Communicate quality standards to clients.
* Participate in internal and external meetings as required.
* Identify and pursue personal training and development opportunities relevant to the role.
Person Specification
Essential:
* Minimum A-level education (or equivalent).
* 2+ years’ experience in the construction industry preferred.
* Basic knowledge of internal fit-out (partitions/ceilings, mechanical, electrical, public health, firestopping).
* Interest in passive fire protection and willingness to expand knowledge.
* Comfortable hosting and participating in virtual meetings (e.g., Teams).
Desirable:
* General passive fire protection knowledge or experience.
* Design management experience or involvement.
* IFE Level 2 certification.
* CSCS card.
* Experience with common data environments (CDE) and BIM model viewers such as AutoCAD Cloud, Dalux, Navisworks, or Revit.
