Job Description Commercial Manager – EUROJET and Turbo-Union (International Assignment) Business Area: Defence Location: Munich, Germany As a commercial team we empower people to win and deliver better business. We’re looking for someone who can build relationships and influence across the organisation. You’ll have an aptitude for understanding the business and how to shape our commercial deals to make sure we balance risk and reward effectively as well as negotiating with customers to achieve these outcomes. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Commercial Manager to be embedded in the EUROJET and Turbo-Union consortiums. This is a secondment role based in the EUROJET office in Munich, Germany. EUROJET is the European consortium responsible for the design, delivery and in-service support of the EJ200 engine powering the Eurofighter Typhoon, with a growing portfolio of global customers. Rolls-Royce is one of four Partner Companies that make up the consortium, along with MTU, GE Avio and ITP. Turbo-Union is the European consortium responsible for the RB199 engine powering the Tornado, with products in service in Saudi Arabia, Italy and Germany. Rolls-Royce is one of three Partner Companies that make up the consortium, along with MTU and GE Avio. This role provides Commercial leadership across both consortiums, split approximately 80% EUROJET / 20% Turbo-Union. Role Description We’re looking for someone who can build relationships and influence in a multi-cultural environment. You’ll have an aptitude for understanding the business and how to shape our commercial deals to make sure we balance risk and reward across a culturally diverse range of customers and partners. As a Commercial Manager within EUROJET and Turbo-Union, you will provide leadership and programme management of tasks to deliver Commercial support for a range of existing EJ200 and RB199 contracts and growth opportunities. This will include the commercial aspects of co-ordinating bids and proposals, developing solutions, negotiating and securing contracts and commercial contract management. This role provides the opportunity to work with senior management and executive teams within the consortium environment. The work encompasses a broad range of stakeholders and therefore requires a dynamic and highly motivated individual who is capable of communicating at such levels as well as operating within an environment of trust and with autonomy. Due to the customer facing nature of this role, there may be demands for work outside the normal core hours and the position could involve a requirement to travel, sometimes at short notice. As a Commercial Manager your main responsibilities will be to: Collaborate with EUROJET and Turbo-Union partner companies to develop commercial solutions for complex business issues. Lead and co-ordinate bids, proposal and contracting activities within EUROJET and Turbo-Union and working with their respective partner companies. Draft and negotiate contract terms with customers using appropriate techniques and strategies Develop and implement contracting and negotiation strategies for new business using relevant processes and procedures Identify potential risks and liabilities in concepts, proposals and contracts and implement appropriate means to manage these. Instruct and administer new and existing business agreements providing trusted advice and guidance to commercial and non-commercial staff to ensure understanding of EUROJET / TurboUnion and customer obligations and contract points. Lead activities and support others in the team with your supportive coaching style. Key Skills: A degree or equivalent qualification or experience. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels both verbally and in writing. Collaborates well in an international team environment, building relationships across the business and effectively influencing other areas. Sound business and commercial acumen including the ability to interpret commercial issues and understand the commercial components of deals and how to influence them. Demonstrated ability to analyse, interpret, negotiate and draft agreements and understanding of pricing principles. Experience of managing projects and a recognised Project Management qualification (or a willingness to work towards one) would be advantageous. Previous commercial and contracting experience including responsibility for managing a substantive customer / supplier / partner relationship would be advantageous.
