Location United Kingdom Manchester Manchester Remote vs. Office Hybrid (Remote/Office) Company Siemens Energy Limited Organization Grid Technologies Business Unit Grid Solutions Full / Part time Full-time Experience Level Not defined A Snapshot of Your DayAs a Control & Protection Engineer for HVDC Studies you will work within a team of HVDC project management and engineering specialists to design and deliver full HVDC control and protection solutions for both wind farm grid connections and interconnectors making use of a new transient network analysis laboratory located in Manchester. You will report to the Engineering Manager – HVDC C&P and will be required to provide engineering work packages in line with project and business objectives. How You’ll Make an Impact
1. Dynamic performance studies within tender and project execution of HVDC projects
2. Optimizing the dynamic behaviour of the HVDC converter (, black-start and network restoration, grid forming controls, multi-terminal systems) according to customer and national grid code requirements
3. Analysing sub-synchronous torsional/control interactions and the harmonic converter impedance, as well as potential interactions between the HVDC converter and other controlled devices in the power system
4. Developing and validating simulation models for diverse EMT simulation tools (, PSCAD/EMTDC, Matlab/Simulink, EMTP-RV)
5. Customer trainings for simulation models and presentation of study results to customer
6. Continuous improvement and standardization of simulation models, study procedures and methods, processes in project execution as well as documentation of results
7. Supporting the project management in technical discussions, participating in customer meetings, and coordinating external partners
What You Bring
8. University degree in electrical power engineering or control engineering in combination with PhD degree and experience in power engineering industry
9. Good knowledge in high voltage applications, power transmission systems, power electronics and HVDC technology
10. Expertise in control engineering and modelling of HVDC systems in the time domain and frequency domain
11. Professional user of typical power system simulation programs (, PSCAD/EMTDC, Matlab/Simulink, EMTP-RV)
12. Fluent English mandatory (spoken and written), German preferable
13. Outstanding team skills, initiative, and customer orientation
