Furniss & White Foundry Ltd is a family-owned, independent British steel foundry established in 1980. We specialise in high-quality castings, fabrications, and precision machining, serving key manufacturing sectors globally from our modern facility in Sheffield.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Ensure adequate work is fed to the Melters in an efficient manner.
* Programming and carrying out melting campaign.
* Directly overseeing and assisting Melters, labourers and knockout operatives.
* Oversee, inspect and assist on furnace maintenance and general tidiness
* Weekly Inspections of under stage area.
* Carrying out melt calculations and consulting Spectro Analyst on specifications.
* Maintain ability to operate the spectrometer without assistance.
* Transfer of parts poured onto melt ticket and melt sheet to enable traceability.
* Overseeing ladle preparation, informing labourers on nozzle sizes that need fitting for upcoming jobs.
* Organising deliveries of metals, weighing and analysing scrap. Booking in of deliveries.
* Ordering refractory products for furnace and ladles.
* Liaise with the Foundry Manager on stock levels of bought scrap and alloys.
* Responsible for the planning and delegation of work to the melting chargehands and operatives.
* Supervising of work, ensuring health and safety procedures and best working practices are followed.
* Reviewing work and ensuring quality standards are met.
* Deputise for the foundry manager as required.
* To mentor and coach the team, in line with agreed standards and procedures. Identifying and providing ongoing training, evaluating the performance and development of the team.
* Monitor shop floor practices and ensure compliance with all current legislation and company policy.
The Person:
* Experience and knowledge of melting ferrous metals and alloys, preferred but not essential.
* Experience of production within a Steel Foundry or similar industry.
* A strong understanding of Health and Safety and best working practises.
* Excellent communication, organisational & administrative skills ensuring that communication is ongoing and effective, capable of delegating appropriately, with effective negotiation skills.
* Experience of people management.
* Effective team player capable of building and maintaining working relationships.
* Business Focused with strategic awareness, strong financial acumen, effective risk management and a commitment to continuous improvement of performance.
* Good IT skills.
* Effective problem solver able to adapt to the ever-changing environment and reacting quickly to meet complex challenges.
