Stockport Foundation Trust is one of four ‘specialist’ hospital sites in Greater Manchester. Being a ‘specialist’ hospital will enhance our general surgery, anaesthetics, critical care and emergency medicine for the benefit of people in Stockport, High Peak, Cheshire and across Greater Manchester.

Job overview

• To provide high quality consultant-led care to patients including clinical leadership and supervision of Resident medical staff, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care are provided to all patients attending the Emergency Department.

• To be proactive in ensuring that all patients receive rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision making, whilst ensuring that the Emergency Access Standards are adhered to, ensuring that we deliver safe, high-quality care.

• Patient safety, dignity and care are the highest priority and at the centre of all that we do.

• Whilst on duty in the department the ED consultant will provide highly visible and focused clinical leadership - working in conjunction with the nurse in charge of the shift to ensure that there is effective and timely communication between the clinical team maintaining optimal patient flow.

• To provide teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate level and supervise and train the Resident doctors in emergency medicine and emergency nurse practitioners, and Advanced Clinical Practitioners.

• To be proactive in the care group’s clinical governance agenda and take on leadership roles to support continuous learning and improvement, thereby abiding by the clinical and corporate governance policies of the Trust.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary.

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.
