Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced Biomedical Scientists for the position of Senior Biomedical Scientist within the Transfusion Laboratories at University Hospitals Dorset.
Key Responsibilities
* Help manage and co‑ordinate day‑to‑day technical activities of the Transfusion Department, prioritising work so that a safe and timely service is available and meets patient needs.
* Coordinate routine processing of specimens, allocating work to other BMS and MLA staff to ensure a smooth workflow.
* Ensure appropriate investigations and components are performed and supplied in a timely manner.
* Ensure specialised and urgent specimens are appropriately dealt with.
* Participate in technical work as required.
* Ensure appropriate maintenance and safe use of equipment.
* Assist in development of rotas and coordinate continuous cover with senior colleagues.
* Coordinate supplies of laboratory consumables and reagents and maintain stock control.
* Contribute to audit activities and development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
* Lead and develop colleagues; provide motivation and leadership.
* Prioritise and organise own workload; possess excellent communication skills.
* Support professional and personal development of staff.
Qualifications and Experience
* Extensive experience in transfusion at a specialist level.
* HCPC registration required.
* Strong knowledge of BSQR, GPG and transfusion related guidelines (advantageous).
* Currently enrolled on a suitable MSc programme (or equivalent) considered as an advantage.
Work Location and Schedule
Base location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital, with cross‑site working at Poole and Bournemouth as required. Flexible working is essential.
