Executive Support Officer Location: County Hall, Taunton/Hybrid working Contract Type:

Full-time, 37 hours per week, £18.62 an hour (Umbrella) About the Role We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Executive Support Officer to join our Executive Leadership Team within the Chief Executive’s Office on a temporary basis. This is a key role providing high-level administrative and executive support to senior leaders, including Executive Directors and Lead Members. This team operates at the very top of the Council’s structure, covering every area of responsibility — fromTransport, Waste, and PlanningtoAdults Services and Housing, Children, Families and Education, Community Services and Finance. Our ESOs are central to ensuring that the Council’s leadership functions smoothly and efficiently. We pride ourselves on being proactive, collaborative, and adaptable — always ready to support one another and respond to the needs of our leaders. You will be responsible for managing complex diaries, coordinating meetings, monitoring inboxes, and responding to correspondence. You’ll also support with preparing reports, organising visits, and liaising with internal and external stakeholders. The role requires discretion, initiative, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Manage diaries and coordinate meetings for Executive Directors and Lead Members. Monitor and action emails, flagging urgent items and filtering non-essential content. Organise travel, accommodation, and conference attendance. Collate information for reports and committee responses. Liaise with services and stakeholders to ensure timely communication and follow-up. Provide cover for other ESOs during leave or absence. About You You’ll be an experienced ESO with excellent communication skills and a strong attention to detail. You would need to work independently and have experience in diary management and excellent communication skills. You’ll be confident using Microsoft Office and able to manage competing priorities calmly and professionally. Experience supporting senior leaders or working in a political or public sector environment is desirable. Working Arrangements
