Job Description Plant Manager Altera Recruitment Group is proud to be partnering with a leading organisation within the energy and resource recovery sector to appoint an experienced Plant Manager. This is a senior leadership role responsible for the full operational, maintenance and regulatory performance of a complex energy from waste and materials recovery facility. The successful candidate will provide strategic and hands on leadership, ensuring health, safety, environmental and quality standards are upheld, operational targets are achieved, and continuous improvement initiatives are embedded across the site. We are seeking a commercially astute and technically strong operations leader with proven experience in power generation or a comparable heavy industrial environment, capable of leading multidisciplinary teams and driving plant reliability, efficiency and compliance. Key Responsibilities of Plant Manager Provide overall leadership and accountability for site operations, maintenance, health and safety, environmental compliance and quality performance. Ensure contractual performance indicators, availability targets and production outputs are consistently achieved or exceeded. Foster a strong safety culture aligned with statutory legislation and best practice management systems, including ISO accredited frameworks. Manage site budgets, financial forecasting and cost control, ensuring expenditure aligns with business objectives. Lead, develop and support the site team, including recruitment, performance management, training and succession planning. Candidate Requirements Significant senior operational management experience within power generation, energy from waste or a comparable process driven industrial environment. Engineering qualification or equivalent technical experience relevant to the energy, waste or power sectors. Strong working knowledge of health, safety, environmental and quality management systems, including regulatory compliance obligations. Demonstrable experience managing plant performance, maintenance systems, outages and continuous improvement initiatives. Proven leadership capability with excellent communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels. Desirable attributes include formal HSE qualifications such as NEBOSH or IOSH, high voltage authorisation, boiler operation certification, and experience with steam turbine and boiler systems.
