Aramark UK is currently recruiting a Cook in Edinburgh EH8 9UE to prepare home-cooked meals for those experiencing homelessness. You will assist in preparing breakfast and dinner daily for residents. This role allows for creativity and freedom to prepare different meals. It is not a fast-paced kitchen environment but an opportunity to focus on quality and creativity, doing meaningful work that benefits both others and yourself.
Our client is a Christian charity whose mission is to meet human needs without discrimination. The site offers a range of services supporting those with addiction, mental health issues, homelessness, and individuals involved in the criminal justice system.
This role requires a strong-willed, empathetic individual who accepts people from all walks of life. It can be challenging but rewarding, providing valuable skills such as de-escalation applicable in many areas of life.
What's in it for you
This is a part-time position, 25 hours per week, working 5 days over 7, including some weekends. Shifts are between 7:30 am and 6 pm.
The hourly rate is £13.99, with double pay on Bank Holidays and overtime when applicable.

A day in the life of a Cook:
Prepare hot and cold foods, serve breakfast, main meals, and desserts in a canteen-style environment within a homeless lifehouse.
Manage catering assistants or KP staff onsite.
Follow menus or create your own meal ideas, with ample time to prepare meals for a small group, allowing for creativity.
Serve at the hot counter during breakfast and dinner, interact with residents, monitor dish availability, and adhere to Food Safety standards.
Ensure cleanliness and safety protocols are followed.
You will be set up for success if you have:
Relevant cookery or culinary qualification is desirable, but we will consider candidates with at least 2 years of catering experience.
Food hygiene Level 2 is desirable but can be obtained via our online e-learning portal.
