The Role
We are looking for an experienced and motivated
Senior Bookkeeper
to join the team. Reporting directly to the
Head of Operations, you will play a key role in overseeing client work, supporting and mentoring junior team members, and ensuring high standards of service and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and manage a small team, including trainees and junior bookkeepers.
Support the training and development of team members.
Plan and supervise client compliance work across a diverse portfolio.
Prepare accounts, VAT returns, and financial reports to strict deadlines.
Allocate and manage workflow effectively to maximise efficiency.
Report to senior managers and contribute to regular meetings.
Handle external communications with HMRC and third parties.
Manage client queries, providing a high level of service and advice.
Carry out general administrative and ad hoc duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience
AAT qualified
or
ACCA part-qualified .
Minimum
2 years experience in an accountancy practice
(essential).
Proven experience in: Bookkeeping and payroll processes.
Accounts preparation.
VAT preparation and submissions.
Attending client meetings and responding to queries.
Liaising with HMRC and external organisations.
Supervising and mentoring junior staff.
Key Skills
Proficiency in
Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, DEXT, and Sage Cloud Accounting .
Strong IT skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and email.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Confidence in handling client interactions and resolving queries effectively.
