This is a training role, and the main responsibilities are achieving competency in Echocardiography.

The post holder will follow a structured training plan with clearly defined targets, expectations, and regular assessments to complete British Society of Echocardiography Accreditation.

The successful applicant must be able to commence this programme from September 2025.

Please note we reserve the right to close this vacancy prior to the closing date once the required number of suitable applications have been received.

Main Responsibilities Include

1. Learning to Conduct Echocardiograms: Working closely with qualified professionals and Newcastle University to learn how to perform echocardiograms, including patient positioning, using ultrasound equipment, and obtaining high-quality images.
2. Interpreting Results: Gaining skills to assess and analyze echocardiogram images following training and competency development.
3. Patient Interaction: Preparing patients for procedures, explaining the process, ensuring comfort, and addressing concerns.
4. Maintenance of Equipment: Ensuring ultrasound equipment is properly maintained and cleaned.
5. Record Keeping: Documenting patient information, test results, and observations while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to healthcare regulations.
6. Collaboration with Healthcare Teams: Working as part of a multidisciplinary team with cardiologists, nurses, and other professionals to provide optimal patient care and contribute to diagnosis and treatment of cardiac conditions.

Trainees typically undergo a combination of on-the-job training, classroom instruction, and practical exams as they progress towards becoming fully qualified echocardiographers.

We manage hospitals across North Tyneside, Wansbeck, Hexham, and additional community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, along with the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital. We also provide home care and community services, emphasizing high-quality patient care and an exceptional patient experience, with one of the most extensive patient experience programs in England.
