Consultant Geriatrician - Specialist Interest in Re-ablement Medicine. Based at Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool. Permanent, full-time (10 sessions per week).
Department: LUH - Medical Staffing. Site: Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool. Salary: £109,725 - £145,478 per annum + On-Call at 3%. Closing: 07/12/2025 23:59.
Responsibilities
* Provide sessional work on general geriatric wards and re-ablement wards, delivering comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) for in-patients.
* Lead MDT-based CGA care on the ward in collaboration with Geriatrics consultants.
* Support two 23-bed reablement wards with a specialist MDT and ACP support; work with a well-established Specialty grade Doctor and STR support as required.
* Engage in care delivery to complex patients requiring longer re-ablement, medical optimisation, and discharge planning.
Working environment
The post is supported by trainees/junior doctors, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, and sessional STR support. The role forms part of a dynamic DMOPS team spanning three sites: Broadgreen, Aintree, and Royal Liverpool. The service emphasises proactive discharge planning and MDT-based care.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Essential: MB ChB or equivalent
* Essential: MRCP (or equivalent)
* Desirable: Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians
* Desirable: Higher degree such as MD or PhD
Registration
* Essential: Full GMC registration and licence to practice
* Essential: On GMC specialist register for Geriatric Medicine or eligible for specialist register
Clinical Experience
* Essential: CCT in Geriatric and General Medicine (or equivalent) or 6 months of attaining CCT at time of interview
Desirable criteria
* Evidence of continuing medical education
* Geriatric and General Medicine experience across required specialties for CCT
* Evidence of training and education (PGCE)
* Proven track record in significant audit; publication of audit results
* Involvement in research; publication of research
Teaching & training
* Desirable: Evidence of training and education (PGCE) and delivery of education for undergraduate and postgraduate levels
Knowledge
* Desirable: Understanding of Good Medical Practice (GMC)
Audit & Research
* Desirable: Proven track record in significant audit; publication of audit results
* Desirable: Involvement in research and publication of research
