The Opportunity: Head of Probate
As the Head of Probate, you will lead and develop a team of Probate Managers who each look after a team of legal advisors, ensuring excellence in legal advice, client service, compliance, and business performance. You will drive team engagement, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and contribute to the department’s growth and success. This role is pivotal in delivering high-quality legal services while supporting the commercial objectives of Right Legal Group.
🔑 What You’ll Do: Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Collaboration
* Lead, mentor, and coach both new and experienced Probate Team Managers to enhance their legal expertise and client service delivery.
* Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and structured team meetings to support development and engagement.
* Travel across our branch network which is Nationwide to embed/enhance the probate client journey as and when necessary.
* Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performance culture aligned with Right Legal Group’s values.
* Promote collaboration and knowledge sharing within the team and across departments.
* Manage performance proactively by setting clear expectations, addressing underperformance, and recognising high achievement.
* Support the recruitment and selection process for new Legal Advisors, ensuring candidates align with the firm’s values and service standards.
* Work closely with the HR and Training teams to support internal communications and promote employee engagement initiatives.
Legal & Compliance
* Oversee and manage a very small caseload as and when necessary of complex or problematic estates or trusts
* Ensure all team members adhere to SRA regulations and internal compliance standards.
* Monitor case quality and implement best practices to maintain high legal and ethical standards.
* Act as a role model for professionalism, integrity, and client care.
* Review matters and audit reports regularly to maximise quality and ensure consistency in legal service delivery.
* Utilise the case management system effectively to optimise the progression and timely resolution of matters.
* Proactively keep up to date with changes in legislation and market conditions to ensure your team’s advice remains current and relevant.
* Ensure all legal documents are completed in accordance with SRA requirements and internal quality standards.
* Ensure risks and issues are documented and mitigated against in so far as possible
* Make recommendations to Legal Services Director for changes to systems and/or processes which could have a positive impact on the business’s gross profit margin and/or mitigation of risk
Client Experience
* Ensure clients receive the Rightprobate process efficiently and effectively, maintaining high service standards.
* Maximise client feedback to identify opportunities for local service improvements.
* Facilitate feedback collection through client review sites to enhance transparency and reputation.
* Work collaboratively with Probate Managers to resolve client complaints in line with the complaints policy, ensuring timely and fair resolutions.
* Monitor client satisfaction metrics to drive continuous service enhancement and responsiveness.
* Work collaboratively with other Heads of Department to improve client outcomes, service delivery and employee engagement.
Performance
* Analyse performance data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
* Implement strategies to improve service delivery, client engagement, and commercial outcomes.
* Review Work in Progress and potential impact to the division to create a robust division with an ability to in-take large WIP acquisitions without affecting existing client service deliverables
* Collaborate with the Legal Services Director to support department-level initiatives and referral partner performance.
* Drive monthly and annual targets through effective planning and team motivation.
* Review division P&L to ensure profitability of the division on an on-going basis
* Support local marketing campaigns by conducting meetings with community groups and organizations.
* Act as an ambassador for the division, building commercial relationships to drive referrals and raise brand awareness.

* You have strong legal experience in a large practice with high volume of caseload, ideally in private client or conveyancing where strict process adherence is essential.
* Possess exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills and a passion for delivering outstanding client service.
* You have proven ability to lead by example, maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and compliance.
* You have dedication to supporting, mentoring, and developing team members.
* You are A results-driven mindset with the ability to motivate and inspire others. Ideally with a proven record of owning/maintaining a budget or full P&L.
* Possess strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
* You have high energy and drive to support the team in achieving monthly and yearly targets.
* You have the ability to think commercially and strategically
