Principal Scientist - Enzymology
Location: Cambridge
Type: Permanent
SRG is supporting the search for a Principal Scientist with expertise in enzymology.
You will be an inspirational scientist with a strong record in enzymology and biochemistry, impacting projects through scientific leadership. You will lead the design of biochemical assays and mechanistic data to characterize cancer targets.
The ideal candidate will have recent experience in enzyme mechanistic studies, assay development, and leadership in drug discovery, including compound handling and inhibition mechanisms. Leadership capabilities and strategic decision-making are essential.
The Role:
* Provide scientific leadership for biochemical assays and mechanism of action studies.
* Design and develop physiologically relevant biochemical assays for various targets using recombinant proteins.
* Characterize cancer targets at the molecular level.
* Define biochemical profiling to support small molecule characterization for oncology targets.
* Characterize small molecules in vitro, focusing on kinetics and mechanisms of inhibition, and translate findings into cellular environments.
* Represent the department in projects and cross-site initiatives.
* Prioritize work and manage team objectives and performance.
Requirements:
* PhD (or equivalent) in Enzymology, Pharmacology, or related field.
* Extensive experience in enzymology within drug discovery.
* Deep understanding of steady-state and pre-steady-state enzymology and mechanistic enzymology.
* Knowledge of biochemical assays and detection technologies, emphasizing physiologically relevant systems.
* Experience in assay development for various targets.
* Strong external reputation, demonstrated through publications, presentations, and conference participation.
* Key techniques to highlight on your CV: Biochemical Assay Development, Recombinant Protein Assays, Fluorescence, Luminescence, HTRF, Fluorescence Polarization.
