Offer description

We’re looking for an experienced, motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Regulation team as a Regulatory Analyst. Reporting to the ED3 Policy Manager, you will support the delivery of an optimum outcome on price controls by leading the development and articulation of regulatory policy positions that inform our business plan submissions. You will ensure our policy proposals are robust, innovative and aligned with Ofgem’s strategic priorities, stakeholder expectations and the evolving needs of consumers and the energy system. You’ll play a key role in producing high-quality narrative and regulatory data to tight deadlines and will support the development of assurance processes to validate the quality and integrity of policy outputs. Preferably this role will be based out of NGED’s Bristol, Castle Donnington or Tipton offices (this can be on a hybrid basis, with an expectation of being in the office around 2 days per week), but other NGED locations can be considered. *Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete. About Us We’re National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED), the owner and operator behind the electricity distribution systems for the Midlands, the Southwest of England and South Wales. Serving communities of more than 8 million people, our expert teams deliver heat, light and power for homes and businesses. National Grid employs over 29,000 people worldwide. We are building an inclusive workplace, a place to actively celebrate the cultures, personalities and preferences of our colleagues – who in turn help to build the success of our business and reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. Our vision is to be at the heart of a clean, fair and affordable energy future and we are doing this in a fast-moving industry with an increasing focus on tackling climate change, exploring new energy sources that are renewable, low carbon, and improve efficiency to meet demand. Main Responsibilities Monitor regulatory developments from various sources (including Ofgem consultations and working groups) and translate key insights into actionable policy positions. Prepare clear and concise briefing notes, position papers and presentations to support senior leadership and regulatory engagement. Drive innovation by benchmarking best practices across the sector and proposing new ideas that enhance the value and impact of the business plan. Engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders - including consumer representatives and industry bodies - to ensure that policy proposals are credible, robust and well-informed. Act as the central point of coordination for policy workstreams, integrating contributions from teams including asset strategy, engineering, commercial and customer functions. Develop high-quality, evidence-led narrative content that supports a compelling and consumer-focused business plan. Lead the creation and delivery of policy content across key areas of the ED3 submission, ensuring alignment with Ofgem guidance and stakeholder feedback. Support the development and implementation of assurance processes to ensure the accuracy, quality and integrity of all policy outputs. The Ideal Candidate We’re looking for a candidate with solid experience in regulatory affairs, public policy or strategic planning - ideally within the energy sector. A strong understanding of UK energy regulation is essential, particularly with regard to Ofgem frameworks, RIIO price controls and consumer value principles. You must be confident communicating with senior stakeholders and presenting policy positions in high-profile settings. You will have a proven ability to produce compelling, well-evidenced content for regulatory submissions or strategic reports and be skilled at synthesising complex information from a range of sources into clear, actionable policy positions. Strong analytical skills, a strategic mindset and exceptional attention to detail are essential. We are looking for someone who is purpose-driven, with a strong focus on consumer-focused outcomes and contributing to the energy transition. Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills are key, as is the ability to work collaboratively across teams and build alignment on shared objectives. You should also be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience using policy tools such as PESTLE analysis or cost-benefit frameworks would be an advantage, as would previous involvement in the development of assured policy content. An understanding of stakeholder engagement approaches and familiarity with regulatory best practice across the sector would also be beneficial.
